Child Passenger Safety

Car seat checks

Do you have questions about whether your child’s car seat is properly installed? Fayette County Public Health has 4 certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians (CPSTs) who can answer your questions. You can also schedule an appointment for a CPST to check your installation. The process has changed due to COVID-19. Please call 740-335-5111 to schedule an appointment.

Ohio Buckles Buckeyes

Fayette County Public Health serves as Fayette County’s Ohio Buckles Buckeyes distribution site.

The Ohio Department of Health’s child passenger safety (CPS) program, Ohio Buckles Buckeyes (OBB), provides child safety seats and booster seats to eligible low income families in all Ohio counties. The overall goal of this program is to increase the availability of child safety seats for families who could not otherwise afford them and to increase correct installation and proper use of child safety seats.

Requirements for the Ohio Buckles Buckeyes Program
In order to receive an OBB seat, families:

1) Must attend an educational class provided by trained local CPS staff. In this session, the parent/caregiver(s) receives important education on how to properly use the car seat for their child, and they are instructed on how to correctly install the seat in their vehicle.

2)  Must have an income within WIC guidelines although recipient does not need to be enrolled in the WIC Program

3) Must be a resident of Fayette County

OBB Clinics
Distribution clinics are held on the second Thursday of every month from 1-3 p.m. (Currently suspended due to COVID-19. Call to make an appointment). The clinics are held at Fayette County Public Health spring through fall and at Washington Fire Department during winter or in other inclement weather situations.  The technicians regularly provide education to the community during these clinics and over the phone. They have provided Child Passenger Safety Training at the Pregnancy Center of Washington Court House.

United Way of Fayette County supports the Child Passenger Safety program by providing funding for additional seats and education.
