Food Safety

Our goal: Prevention of food-borne illness and conditions that cause illness ~ including preparation, transportation, storage, and serving. Ensure a healthy environment in food service facilities.

How we accomplish our goal: Routine system of periodic inspections, plan review, operator education, and regulation enforcement. 

Campgrounds

Our goal: Ensure the minimal risk of injury, disease, and vector exposure to persons utilizing camps.

How we accomplish our goal: Periodic inspections, education of operators, enforcement of regulations in all areas of sanitation and safety.

Household Sewage Treatment Systems

Our goal: Reduce the risk of infectious diseases transmitted by improperly or inadequately treated sewage.

How we accomplish our goal: Permitting, site evaluation, system design, installation inspections, operational inspections, soil surveys (disposal and replacement areas), lot splits, and subdivision review.

Mosquitoes, Ticks and Rodents

Our goal: Reduce the risk of infection from vector-borne diseases (such as West Nile Virus, St. Louis encephalitis, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Lyme disease).

How we accomplish our goal: Provide information to the public regarding the prevention of vector-borne diseases. Monitoring of mosquito and tick populations and environmental conditions that would harbor the breeding of such vectors.

Nuisance Complaints

Our goal: Abatement of nuisances from conditions caused by people that may enable the spread of disease, create accidental hazards, discomfort, property depreciations, or any other conditions that are related to health or safety.

How we accomplish our goal: Investigate nuisance complaints.

Ohio School Inspection Program

Our goal: Provide the schools with ways to maintain and improve the environment of their facilities in order to meet the needs of their students to ensure a safe and healthy learning environment.

How we accomplish our goal: Inspection of the school from offices to the classrooms, and playgrounds, looking for health and safety hazards.  FCPH inspects Washington Court House City Schools, Miami Trace, and the Fayette County Christian School.

Operations & Maintenance

Our goal:
Ensure all sewage treatment systems are working correctly and not polluting the environment.

How we accomplish our goal: Permit and inspect private septic systems on a regular basis based on the complexity of the system.  Gather information and help educate the potential owners on the conditions and requirements of their systems serving the residence. These inspections are required in the sale of any properties with well & septic systems. 

Public Swimming Pools & Spas

Our goal: Prevent the spread of waterborne diseases, related illnesses, and accidents at public swimming pools and spas.

How we accomplish our goal: Periodic inspections, education of operators, enforcement of regulations, monitoring of chemicals, water quality, and equipment.


Public Health Nuisance Abatement

Our goal: Protect the community against public health nuisance conditions that could adversely affect the health and welfare of persons in the community.

How we accomplish our goal: Promote public awareness of the importance of a clean, healthy environment. Abate threats to public health through ordinances, orders, court action, and demolition.

Private Water Systems

Our goal: To assure safe water to users of private water supplies.

How we accomplish our goal:  Issue permits to install and alter private water wells. Pre-construction approval of the site is required. After installation, the well is inspected and a sample is collected to ensure the safety of the water supply.

Water samples of existing wells are collected on request. Evaluation of existing wells is an ongoing service. The department samples and inspects wells before properties are sold. Defects must be corrected prior to the sale of the property. The department is also available to assist citizens with problems with their water supply. Water samples can only be collected between 1 - 4 p.m. on Mondays due to the lab’s pickup schedule. These must be collected at the home.

Rabies Monitoring

Our goal: Protect the public from the spread of rabies and promote awareness of the dangers of rabies.

How we accomplish our goal: Monitoring of a nationwide immunization program, quarantine isolation and observation during bite cases (both human and animal), and suspect case animal head submissions to the Ohio Department of Health for clinical testing.

Solid and Infectious Wastes
